LIGHTS HOPE WOW CLIENT .EXE
"exe signing did not exist in 2006" - where do you get this stuff? Microsoft was signing exe's and drivers for WinXP, well before 2006. Did you know, all viruses have hashes too that can be verified? If that's not how verifying hashes work, feel free to explain - because that is absolutely how it works and you are very wrong if you think otherwise (lol?!?!1?). You just keep insulting people and telling them they're wrong without even a brief explanation. Don't try to explain or defend outside of your expertise. Ultimately, I would guess you don't know any better and you're not doing anything malicious. Some IP's don't appear to be anything (they return a 404 error to the launcher.txt error log file). They could have been/still be farming personal info though. Whatever this was, the IP's aren't blacklisted anywhere I can see so they likely weren't ever serving up malware. Vehemently defending something YOU don't understand is what's going on here. Not a troll, not confused, I don't work for Blizz or Elysium/pservers, not getting off hurting "beautiful" things.
Only WoW.exe was edited to make the realmlist.wtf function the way it does (I don't remember specifics) so it shouldn't be signed by Blizz. Not the same as the one included here and the above one signed by Blizz does not have the Chinese IPs. This is the hash of a Launcher.exe signed by Blizzard Entertainment: The exe being distributed by MaNGOS does not legitimize the exe like you seem to think. I would doubt your ISO's are from the CD and most likely you just repackage this torrent. You're comparing an unsigned, Chinese-contacting exe to an unsigned, Chinese-contacting exe and then saying "SEE, clean!". You keep talking about comparing hashes but to do that, you need to compare to a known good sample. This exe could have something to do with that but it'd be a stupid way to do and I don't see a reason why. When WoW was finally released in China, it was officially permitted. You use VPN's to get around it, not make the exe use specific IP's. The IP's are have nothing to do with the Great Firewall of China. However, it does seem like the launcher included in almost all pserver's download. This is not the Launcher.exe that came on CDs. The other page shows it contacts Chinese IP's. The first page on VirusTotal shows the file doesn't contain malware, yes. But I'm not making this for people like you. But if you prefer to do things the hard way, as your pointed out there are tons of resources out there already. So with my torrent, newbies and old alike will have no trouble: it's here for your ease and convenience. I determined exactly which binaries Lights Hope uses and included those, so other people won't have to. In my case, I've ran my own mangos server before, reviewed the code, studied the client, and sourced all the files. Check for yourself if you have any doubt).

That is the download YOU JUST LINKED in your post, showing how easy it is to mess these things up, even when you actually know what you're doing.
(I researched this version a few years ago, it'll still work, but it's not 100% compatible. For instance in that link you gave me, the Mac data file is actually incorrect. The people who want something that "just works".įurthermore, there is so many things that can go wrong. But to someone new, they just want to play the game.
